Who might benefit?

Artists, arts educators, and arts activists and individuals that want creativity to play a larger and more central role in their lives.

This is for people who need to be able to develop and articulate what their greatest vision for themselves could be with someone who does not judge, but does hold you accountable to follow up on the goals  and action steps you present.

And....

Women and men who are creatives seeking to realize more engaged yet balanced lives, and/or the courage to go for their dreams in the arts.

This is for those who want to be encouraged to go for their greatest dreams in the context of pragmatic planning that deals with the realities that we may need to confront, move around, over, or through to realize our greatest potential as creatives.

And...

Second career artists, who have come to the arts later in life.  It is not too late to develop and share your creative thinking with the world.  The world needs it.

If you need someone to help you remember that you and your art matter and you pursue your creative voice, creativity coaching with Helen Klebesadel may be for you.

What is Creativity Coaching?

Creativity coaching is a coaching method that helps individuals grow into their most authentic selves.  The process is designed to bring the coach and the client together to collaborate on identifying and nurturing the clients’ greatest visions for themselves as creative people and/or artists. Developing creative confidence and well-being is one of the greatest contributions we can give ourselves and others.  Our ability to apply our creative skills, thinking and expression in all aspects of our lives provides enormous benefits and results, especially if our chosen careers are in the arts.  Creativity Coaching as a professional practice aims to help clients figure out how to articulate and nurture their creative vision for themselves, recognize obstacles, establish attainable strategies for moving toward their visions and in setting up systems of shred and self-accountability to assist them in achieving their goals.  This Creativity Coaching practice is governed by the International Coaching Foundation’s professional code of ethics.

What can I expect from creativity coaching with Helen?
As your creativity coach I will collaborate with you to identify your truest path for yourself as a creative.  We will partner to create a relationship of mutual respect and trust built upon a foundation of confidentiality.   Our initial work will most likely be to draw upon your deepest inner knowledge to articulate your greatest visions for yourself as a fully engaged creative person.   Together we will work to help you identify your more immediate goal.  I will support you while you figure out your next steps, whether they are toward realizing an immediate project or determining best path toward achieving your greatest vision for yourself as an artist.

I am an artist, a teacher and a coach, and some of my clients may work with me in more than one capacities.  It is therefore important for me to explain that there are two especially important differences between creativity coaching and teaching: the power relationship and the source of perceived knowledge.  In creativity coaching I have a collaborative relationship with my clients based in the understanding that they already have within them the knowledge and abilities to articulate and work for their fullest creative potential.  My job is to partner with them to help them draw out that knowledge.  As a teacher, I am asked to be the expert and teach the student new knowledge and skills that they do not yet have, but need, to develop their artistic potential going forward.   I’m sometimes asked to assess and judge my students’ efforts, while in coaching I don’t evaluate, I support.

Helen’s philosophy is that…
…we are born creative.  It is what makes us human.  However, our creative voices can be stymied or restrained by the circumstances of our lives. If we have lost contact with our creativity, we can find it again and use it to aid us in everything we do: from informing our decision-making and problem-solving, to arranging our lived environments to make us happier, to guiding our creative work as artists and makers.  Our authentic center remains, ready to be tapped as an important resource for each of us to use to reach our fullest potential.

As a Creativity Coach my goal is to help you to access your creative center in the service of achieving your greatest vision for yourself.  I will support you identifying ways to reach your best creative thinking for your life, your artistic practice, and the world, because the world is not a better place without your best self being realized.  Creativity Coaching can support you on your path toward expanding your creative potential for a fuller life.

Before first session:
  • I will ask you to fill out a reflective questionnaire prior to the first session and give it back to me so I can learn about general goals, and desires.
  • I will share my Coaching Agreement, which is designed to establish clear shared understanding of boundaries, and determine how often we will interact and in what ways.
